In fact, the Northern Railway will prepare a new bridge over the Yamuna River just like the old railway bridge. The train movement will begin in September next year. The railway administration says the movement of the new bridge will begin in September 2023. The bridge will simultaneously pull high-risk railways.

Currently, the train running between Old Delhi-Ghaziabad passes through the old two-story iron bridge. Railways run on the upper floor of the bridge and vehicles on the lower floor. Being old, whenever Yamuna crosses the danger mark, the iron bridge closes. To get out of this problem, the Railways had planned to prepare a new bridge about 15 years ago. But it was delayed for different reasons.

According to railway officials, all obstacles have been removed. In any case it will be ready in September 2023. Given the aging of the iron bridge and the pressure of rail traffic, the proposal to build a new bridge was approved only in 1997-98 and the first stone was also laid. by the then Minister of Railways.

The alignment of the railway line of the new bridge was done only through the Salimgarh fort. In this situation, it was necessary to obtain the approval of the Archaeological Museum of India for the construction of the bridge and the laying of a new railway line around it, but its approval was not received. Because of this, the works could not begin for about five years. After changes in the alignment, in 2013 the construction was re-approved. The goal of completion of the works was set in 2016. It was later changed to 2018. Then December 2020 and now September 2023.

According to railway officials, there were several obstacles in the construction. One of the main reasons for this is that rocks have been found in the lower part of the river during the construction of the bridge pillars. Different types of rocks are not usually found in the river bed. Therefore, the foundation work took time. Other than that, the work has to be stopped every year for four months during the rainy season. A state-of-the-art workshop has been set up for the manufacture of steel beams. The beam is already installed. The cantilever method is being used to throw the beam so that the line can be placed quickly.

The Delhi-Howrah-Delhi route, which is one of the busiest routes, reaches Old Delhi Railway Station from this bridge. About 200 trains and freight trains pass through this bridge every day. In the morning, a train entering Delhi from the side of Ghaziabad-Shadara queues. Because due to the pressure on the bridge and the increased number of trains at Old Delhi station, the green signal is not available. That is why foreign passengers have to suffer. A new railway line will be placed in front of the bridge to Seelampur. After Seelampur, the train will run on the old track.

Construction work on the Yamuna Bridge is underway. Construction will be completed in September 2023. It will be equipped with a signaling system based on modern technology.
