pause on 23 major road projects on the rise, question by question slowed the movement of many files – pending projects

listen to the news

The ‘jungle’ brake has been put on 23 major road projects at UP. Due to the lack of NOC reception from the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), work on these is not moving forward. There are also pending cases from April-2021. NHAI officials say that every time a new query is put in the archive, projects are delayed. If all the questions are asked together the first time, the speed of the file can increase significantly.

For the four-lane project to the Meerut-Shamli-Haryana border of the NH-709A in Baghpat, an application for deforestation was submitted on April 10, 2021, but so far the matter is locked. This application was first consulted on April 27 and again on May 24. Currently, the same situation remains in the works of the NH-44 and the Muzaffarnagar diversion under the Baghpat project unit.

For the improvement of the NH-530B between Mathura and Bareilly in Agra, the forest NOC application was submitted on 5 August 2021. The consultation was first made in November 2021. Yes was answered, now on May 12, 2022, the 5-point query has been put back. Similarly, three other projects, including the major Agra diversion project connecting Yamuna Expressway, are also stranded.

On the NH-74 between Bareilly-Sitarganj, first on March 28, 2022 and then on May 28, 2022, the DFO office conducted a consultation related to the non-receipt of the joint inspection report. While NHAI says the answer in these cases has been given on May 2 and June 7 respectively. This file is also progressing very slowly at the moment. The other package on this road also faces a similar problem.

Deforestation for the Via Hardoi, Palia-Shahjahanpur-Hardoi project, which is included in the priority of the state and central government, has also been blocked since August 24, 2021. The projects approved on NH-731 in Hardoi and Shahjahanpur are also blocked in a similar way. Bijnor DFO was applied on 23 June 2021 for the bypass connecting NH-74 and NH-119 under the Meerut project unit.

Earlier, on March 8, the application was made on paper. On this, a 5-point consultation was made after six months on February 1, 2022, which was answered the following month, March 4, 2022. Due to this style of work, it took 11 months to send the application to the government. Similarly, in the Meerut project unit, 4 more are waiting for the Project Forest NOC. In Moradabad as well, two road projects have not yet received deforestation, while applications were submitted on September 16, 2021 and October 18, 2021.
