That was 16 years ago. More than 200 people were killed in the explosion of a local Bombay train bomb. About 700 were injured. Maharashtra ATS implicated me in a fake case. 9 years in prison. He committed so many atrocities against me that even today my soul trembles at the memory of him. I get sick often. Don’t ask about financial problems. Sometimes it seems like why I was born, why didn’t I die when I was born? There will be almost no part of the body that does not have marks of wounds. It is thanks to the court that I was found innocent.

Now let me tell you my story of how a teacher became accused of the Bombay train explosion …

My name is Wahid Sheikh, I am from Bombay. My father worked in a small company in Bombay. He was the eldest of four brothers. I did my master’s degree in English and Urdu and used to teach English to the children of Anjuman Islam. At that time he lived in Mumbra and was married. Everything was going well, but luckily these congratulations did not last long.

The date, July 11, 2006, would have been 6:30 p.m. I went to a neighbor’s house for tea with my kids and my wife. The television was on instead. Breaking news arrived that there had been serial bomb blasts on local Mumbai trains.

The father used to do small jobs in a private company. I was a teacher by profession and used to teach English to the children of Anjuman Islam.

After a while we got home and went to bed after dinner. The next day, my brother received a call that the police had called me to be interrogated. When I got to the police station, they showed me some photos and asked me if you knew them, I flatly refused. After that I was told that you have to come to the police station every day and give your assistance. It continued like this for three months. Every day I would go to the police station, be interrogated and return home. Mentally I was very upset about it. My weight had also been reduced by 20 kg.

Three months later, that is, September 29 was Jume’s day. He had received 25 calls from the police since the morning. They called me at the police station. I said I would come after offering Namaz, but the police said I had to come now. I didn’t even eat and went straight to the police station by car. On the way, I got a call from a cop coming down to the signal, I’m in the jeep.

I went down to the signal. They were ATS people. He put me in a jeep and took me straight to the Kala Chowki police station. As soon as I got there, I was handcuffed. He put a black cloth over his mouth. They said you were arrested in connection with a murder in Borivali. That same evening, after doing my medicine, I was brought before the court of Judge Abhay Thipsay. I have never had a chance to say, know or hear anything. Police received 14 days of pretrial detention.

Maharashtra ATS officers kept pressuring me to confess that I had made the explosions.

Whatever happened to me in those 14 days, God forbid. Everything stays in my head. My legs and palms were hit by the straps of a flour mill. I would get naked and stand in a room with high air conditioning. Sometimes the rooms with strong heaters hung upside down. There was so much suffocation that I felt I would be out of breath. In the room where he lived, there was such a loud noise that the curtain of his ear broke.

After that, my pretrial detention was extended. The current was applied to the nipples and the private part of my chest. When he went to urinate, he had a burning sensation that started to cry as he tore his throat. There was nothing to eat for many days.

You also have to wonder why the police were doing this.

In fact, one of my relatives was prepared by the police to declare that, due to the explosions of local trains, I made the Pakistani terrorists stay at my house, fed them and showed them the way out of the country. Even though I had nothing to do with it. Here the police were constantly torturing me. I was being pressured to obey him and confess to a false crime, but I didn’t move.

I was subjected to heartbreaking torture by the police, but it hurt me more when the police started harassing my family, they started beating them.

I was subjected to heartbreaking torture by the police, but it hurt me more when the police started harassing my family, they started beating them.

After that, the police started attacking my family. One day, the police took my little brother to the police station and beat him mercilessly. Seeing him, he shook me from within. Still I didn’t listen to the police. After that, my wife and relatives were tortured by the police, they were beaten.

I was charged with UAPA and MCOCA (terrorism reporting case). A month later I got to jail. On the way to Arthur Road Prison, prison staff hit me with a stick. He said I came after bombing the train. Every day ATS agents came to the prison and said he would become a government witness. On June 28, 2008, I was beaten so much inside the prison that I broke my bones, I was covered in blood. That night I was sent to Nashik Prison.

After that, he remained again in Ratnagiri and Nagpur prison. Sometimes I thought about why I was born, why I didn’t die. I hope you don’t marry me, etc … etc.

After that, our case was fought by the renowned lawyer Yug Chaudhary and acquitted us. The court made it clear that there is no evidence to show that the Pakistanis had come to Wahid’s house and that Wahid had taken over him. My relative also stated that the cops had managed to get him to make statements under pressure.

In this case a total of 13 people were arrested, of whom only I was released. Today, 7 years after I was released, I am still ill. Police coup wounds still hurt today. I am scared and financially broken. I am struggling to run my family.
