From a young age I had a passion for doing something. If I saw someone who needed it, I would immediately go for help. Then, day or night, he was passionate about helping. This passion made me a social worker.

Nilofar Malik, who grew up in the Dhakia village of Bareilly, says in a special conversation with Woman Bhaskar: “I must have been studying in class IV-V when I saw that women used to bother reading their letters. L another hesitated to say anything of his own.

It was not customary to teach girls
There was a strange feeling in my mind and I felt that if these women were educated, today they would not have to worry so much. Today 45 years ago, in rural areas, there was not much custom of teaching and writing girls.

At the time it was applied to National Adult Education under the National Literacy Mission. The officials explained to me that I am a small child and how I will teach the children of the village. I said, give me the center and see. At that time I was in fourth grade.

Nilofar, a neighbor of Bareilly, had a passion for social work since childhood. Today it has its own organization.

Center open to fourth class
In my village, caste discrimination and community discrimination used to be rampant. I believed that I should bring people of all religions, castes and genders together on one platform. I opened the adult education center at home and when the district DM came to see me, I was amazed at how such a small girl gets it all right.

The girls at my center tested their skills. At that time I used to receive 50 rupees every month, but I didn’t like 50 rupees. I had a passion for doing something. A little innovation.

sew on old clothes
Little by little my family supported me. In the meantime, I also organized sewing and embroidery. When I got to Class VIII, I learned to embroider and sew myself. He also taught this art to women. He taught sewing in old clothes.

The economic system of women began to change. When I got to 10th, I became a little smarter, then I felt I had to do some work so that the women could move forward. The women sent to the market products such as clothes, embroidery, nuggets, cloth bags and handmade saris. Part of the exhibitions.

Nilofer opened his own center at the age of four. With his help women were employed.

The Nilofar Women’s Development Committee is constituted
Women also gained confidence from this work. They felt that someone likes our work and people buy it too. In 2007, when I turned 30, I formed an organization called ‘Nilofar Mahila Vikas Samiti’. My guru Indradev Trivedi helped me in all this work. In the meantime, I had also finished my graduation.

Before the girls in my village did not leave home to study, but today two girls have studied at Aligarh University for MBBS. I had the opportunity for adult education once, but I had it five times.

My work had spread not only to my village but also to the surrounding villages. My passion grew. When I formed the organization, the district administration was asked to form a self-help group. I went to remote villages and formed groups of women.

the lady will take our land
When I got to the village, people would be fed up that the lady had come and will now deceive our women. Not only that, some men used to tell their wives that this lady would take our land from us. That’s why he comes here. I explained a lot to everyone.

The government used to help a group of up to 5 lakhs, so that the group could start its own work. The men did not want the women to show up. I attended women’s meetings several times in the evening and explained the benefits of forming groups.

Women going to Delhi, Lucknow, Goa
Little by little the women understood my point and started working. Now women had the opportunity to organize exhibitions in big cities like Goa, Lucknow, Delhi. I taught women to work with things that cost nothing.

Teach jobs such as plants found in water, jute bags, embroidery, sewing. The woman who was interested in the job was given this job. A woman began to cultivate roses. I also found fashion design centers, where I taught work to women. Women were also trained on how to use LPG. ASHAs trained in health related topics.

Farmer’s title given to women
In the meantime, I received an offer from Vinoba Ashram to work for women farmers. When I saw the condition of women farmers, I felt very strange. It was then thought that women work 24 hours a day, but they are not yet called farmers. I demanded of women the status of women farmers. We also held rallies in Lucknow for our demands.

Challenges overcome at every step
Right now about 500 women are associated with me. All these women are doing their job. It was not so easy to get here. There were challenges at every step. Making people understand how important it is to study for daughters was the hardest part. Especially in my own society. In my community, there is no emphasis on special education and daughters writing.

People were telling me that now even the fish have started flying. I found this very rude. The difference between a man and a woman means a lot to everyone. If a woman wants to do something for her society, no one can digest it. An attempt is made to re-tie it with chains. At one point like this, my grandmother told me not to give up. There will come a time when everyone will understand your work.

chalk in collaboration
If I could help so many women, I had my own passion in the middle of it. There was always the support of the husband from above. Whether I come at night or during the day. The work has never interrupted me.
I think a woman should believe in herself. Only then will they be able to move on. Today my educated women make products by staying home. Their income also increases and their confidence also increases.
