Paka-River of Blood Review: Anurag Kashyap can make anything happen

2021 ‘Pay: River of Blood’ premiered in the ‘Discovery’ section of the Toronto International Film Festival. It was the story of two families who were thirsty for each other. The film, released on Sony LIV and promoted as produced by Anurag Kashyap, is therefore a masterpiece of cinema. It often happens that a successful film director, after reading the screenplay or narration of the writer-director, agrees to join a film. It often happens with Anurag Kashyap that many emerging directors bring him their films and ask him to present them. There are two advantages to this, they get the pressure of the Anurag Kashyap experience and at the same time the name of Anurag Kashyap opens many doors for him. Anurag’s name is associated with Paga as a producer, but director Nitin Lukos has no brand of his own in the film. Disappointed after watching the movie.

In any village in Kerala, two families do not get along well with each other. Set the blood of the other. A girl from one family and a boy from another family fall in love and think that if they get married, maybe the enmity will end. These days the boy’s uncle is out of jail. Prison days were heavy for him and he too now wants to end the controversy. He spends every rupee he earns in prison to buy gifts for his nephew’s wedding. He meets his nephew’s girlfriend and apologizes to her for only going to jail for the murder of this girl’s father. He even meets with members of the girl’s family to talk about the relationship. As soon as the girl’s uncle receives the news, he kills the boy’s uncle with his spoons and throws the corpse into the river. The boy’s grandmother tells his little grandson to take revenge. The little grandson goes and starts fighting with a man from this family and only then does his older brother come to the rescue. Seeing how they killed the little brother, he also becomes uncontrollable and kills the enemy and the corpse is thrown into the river. The wedding is postponed. Big brother has to run away. After a long time, he returns home on worship days. After the climb, the girl’s uncle kills the little brother and throws him into the river, and in return, the boy kills the killer uncle. In the end, he fills the family photos, guns in all the sacks and throws them into the river. At the climax, the girl’s brother sits in her grandfather’s chair.

Basil Paulos ’performance as the main character Johnny is good. This is his second film. Basil adapts to the character of a straight, calm, nonviolent lover. As the changes in her character come, her attire also changes. Vinita Koshy has made some films as her girlfriend, the main one being Operation Jawa. Vinita’s character had very little to do with it. As he scolded his grandfather, his facial expressions look exact. The two characters who impressed are Jose Kilkkan as the boy’s uncle Kochappan and Arul John as Johnny’s brother, Pachi. In fact, the Hindi film audience has become accustomed to seeing films of the family fight of Romeo and Juliet. Although it is difficult to understand the reason for the family enmity in Pay, it is more difficult to understand how Johnny and Anna developed friendship or love. Killing the people is not an easy task and if it is discovered that there is a murderer, the people boycott him socially. There are no dialogues in many places in the film. Much remains for the public to understand. An attempt has been made to create an atmosphere of fear in the film. It seems strange.

The girl’s grandfather has lost one of his children, but his young son goes against him and goes out to kill him, then the grandfather realizes that this bloody bloody tradition will one day ruin the whole dynasty, but even then it is too late. . On the other hand, the boy’s grandmother also mocks her grandson for revenge by provoking her. When Johnny is cutting the Ferrari, Grandma dies in those days and she can’t even see Johnny. The story is set in a village in Kerala, based on the personal experiences of the director, where the two families are shown in Christian. There is talk of peace in Christianity, but there is only violence in the film that overshadows all love and relationships. This is the first film by writer-director Nitin, but before that he has been working as a successful sound designer and that is why the sound design of the film is very good. Great to hear on the speakers. The rest of the sides, like the dreaded background music by Faizal Ahmed, the photography by Srikanth Kabothu and the montage by Arunima Shankar, are good.

What’s nasty is the production of Anurag Kashyap’s film. There is nothing in this film that should be produced by him. The film has been aired in such a way that the film came into the spotlight because of the producer instead of the director. This question and the question is a bit incomprehensible. Nothing will happen if you don’t watch the movie.
