Shimla. There is news of relief for the residents of the city. Under the Smart City Mission, the way has been cleared for the construction of a single lane flyover at Khalini. After obtaining the work authorization from the National Highway Authority, the Central Department of Public Works will start the work on this step from this month.
With the construction of the flyover, the problem of traffic jam in Khalini will end. This flyover to be constructed at a cost of Rs 8 crore will be the first flyover in the city. Footpath facility will also be available on this flyover which will be constructed 220 meters long. If the weather is normal, the construction works will be completed within the next 16 months. According to the Central Public Works Department, a no-objection letter was received from the NH Authority last week. So now the construction work begins. The design of the flyover is also ready and the tender for the works has been awarded. In view of this situation, instructions are being given to the contractor to start construction work at the same site by the end of this month.
This step will be built on a single pillar. For its construction, the Tuticandi Khalini bypass will be widened first. After that, a flyover will be made from the widened road to Toland road by putting a single pillar. Due to road widening works, the cost of the project may increase by more than eight million. Previously, a double-lane flyover was to be built here, but forest land got in the way. It is now being made single lane so that the project is not stalled due to FCA approval.
The flyover will change the transit system
After the construction of the flyover, the traffic system in Khalini will change. Vehicles coming from BCS-Panthaghati to Old Bus Stand will directly reach Toland Road via this flyover. They will not have to take the turn to go to Khalini Chowk. On the other hand, vehicles going from Toland side towards Pantha Ghati and Tuticandi will leave for their destination after turning at Khalini Chowk as before. At present, all vehicles coming from BCS Panthaghati side take U-turn towards Khalini Chowk. Meanwhile, vehicles coming from Toland and Tuticandi also reach the chowk. That’s why there are traffic jams throughout the day. Now BCS vehicles will not go to the chowk and will give way directly to Toland.
