Shri Krishna Janmashtami was celebrated in the capital on Friday with reverence and joy. Throughout the day, the temple echoed with chants of ‘Nand Ke Anand Bhayo, Jai Kanhaiya Lal Ki, Yashoda Nandan Ki Jai, Makhan Chor Ki Jai, Hathi Ghoda Palki Jai Kanhaiya Lal Ki, Bolo Banke Bihari Lal Ki’.

The paintings and bhajan troupes adorning the temples maintained the thoroughly Christian atmosphere. At 12 o’clock in the night, the temple was resounding with the cries of Shri Krishna. During this, special aartis were performed in the temples amidst the abhishek and 56 types of delicacies were offered.

The birth anniversary of Lord Krishna started with the first aarti at five in the morning in all the big and small temples. After that the process of worshiping and seeing Lord Shri Krishna started and continued till midnight. Most of the devotees came to the Lakshmi Narayan temple to offer prayers.

The ISKCON temple (East of Kailash, Punjabi Bagh, Rohini, Dwarka and Geeta Colony) also witnessed the influx of devotees. There was a competition among the devotees to swing Lord Shri Krishna.
