Officials are sabotaging the Municipal Corporation’s efforts to improve Chandigarh’s ranking in the cleanliness survey. The last case is that of Sector-19. When the garbage that had been there for months was reported to the cleaning application, the corporation employees reached the site with JCB and garbage truck, but before collecting the garbage, an officer said that this area is not it’s his Hearing this, the employees returned without taking the trash.
People’s work often gets stuck in the conflict between the administration and the work of the municipal corporation. Both hold each other accountable and the complainant feels cheated. Ramveer, a resident of Sector 19, said there is a vacant space between SD Public School and House No. 2241 of Sector 19C. Here is a lot of garbage, which he has been seeing for two months. On August 8, he complained about the cleaning application of the Municipal Corporation with a photo.
A few days later, the municipal team arrived with JCB, garbage cart and other items to remove the garbage, but a corporation official said that this premises does not belong to the municipal corporation. After that everyone returned without taking the garbage and it was written in the application that the site does not come under the MCC road wing. That settled the complaint. In response, it was written that the site contains scrap material, construction debris, horticultural waste, unusable toilet, etc. and said that the JE of the administration has been informed. A few days later, the staff of the Horticulture Area took away some horticultural waste. Other workers took away the remains of the construction, but the trash remains as it is.
Not all trash has been collected yet
A few days have passed since the complaint but so far not all the rubbish has been collected from the site. The complainant said the sewer was repaired a few days ago nearby. His remains are also there to this day. The sewage also spilled near the government school, where a lot of soil was also left behind in the park. The complainant said that what does the common know which place is with the administration and which place is with the municipal corporation. If a complaint center has been created and a citizen makes a complaint there, the complaint must be addressed to the same department, whose responsibility must be made. Common people are being harassed by involving them in jurisdictional disputes.
The department that owns the grounds is also responsible for cleaning them. This discussion has already taken place during meetings in this regard. -Anindita Mitra, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation
Garbage collection is the City Council’s main responsibility. In the southern sectors, we are picking up trash and mowing lawns from empty administration sites. However, if there is any such problem in Sector-19, we will eliminate it. – CB Ojha, Chief Engineer, Chandigarh Administration
