While Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain is in ED custody, there are fears that Manish Sisodia, the second chief minister of the government, may be arrested any moment. BJP leaders allege that the real ‘mastermind’ of Delhi’s excise policy is Arvind Kejriwal. In this situation, it is speculated that sooner or later Arvind Kejriwal may also come under the scanner. It is described as almost the same “repetition of action” that happened to Narendra Modi when he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat.
The then Chief Minister of Gujarat, Narendra Modi, and his most trusted aide, Amit Shah, were facing severe scrutiny from central investigative agencies. When Narendra Modi was questioned harshly for eight hours while he was the Chief Minister, Amit Shah had to go to jail. At that time, the BJP alleged that its leaders were being harassed deliberately and this was an attempt to check its growing popularity. The same charge is being leveled by the Aam Aadmi Party right now.
At present, Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister of the country in the year 2014 after going through all the political storms and since then till now he has been the first choice of the people of the country. His trusted colleague Amit Shah not only rose to the highest post of party president but also achieved many historic jobs by becoming the home minister of the country. It is said that the then central government’s action on Narendra Modi and Amit Shah made them more popular and helped them advance. Arvind Kejriwal is also playing the victim card and will his party be able to take advantage of this situation?
“Kejriwal imitates Modi”
Many political analysts believe that Arvind Kejriwal’s working style closely matches that of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Just as Prime Minister Narendra Modi projected himself politically by making Gujarat a model, Arvind Kejriwal tries to sell the Delhi model in every election. There are allegations against the two leaders that they sidelined many leaders of their own party to advance politics. The position of the two leaders in their respective party is paramount and whatever they say is considered to be the party’s view.
Just as Prime Minister Narendra Modi is making nationalism his biggest strength, Arvind Kejriwal is also seen trying to leverage nationalism in everything. He is the first Indian leader who, despite being the Chief Minister of a state, is seen launching a plan to make the whole of India number one in the world. Like the BJP and Narendra Modi, they are trying to take the lead everywhere on the issue of hoisting the tricolor or Hindutva.
Will the victim card work?
Political analysts believe that the way Arvind Kejriwal is highlighting the arrest of its leaders, is an attempt by the party to play the victim card. In this way, he is making good use of the national media and taking forward the party’s election campaign in Gujarat-Himachal Pradesh. Now he has brought Manish Sisodia to the center of Gujarat election campaign and Arvind Kejriwal is now trying to attract people by holding repeated press conferences in Gujarat with Manish Sisodia. Will this party strategy be helpful in taking the party forward in Gujarat?
The political strength of the two parties is different
We have to keep in mind that even when central agencies take action against Narendra Modi or Amit Shah, BJP had become a big political force even at that time. He had thousands of workers who repeatedly blamed the actions taken against their leader. The central leaders of the party also came out openly with their state unity. In the form of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh too, Narendra Modi and Amit Shah had got the support of a large force.
Whereas Arvind Kejriwal is alone in this matter. They have a much smaller cadre of workers than the BJP. They also lack leaders at the national level who can advocate for them at the national level. If the court gets concrete evidence in corruption cases and action is taken against its leaders, it could turn out to be a negative turn for the party. Arvind Kejriwal is currently trying to take on the BJP with the help of the state units of Delhi and Punjab.
Modi’s credibility on corruption
BJP leader Sudesh Verma told Amar Ujala that there can be no comparison of Prime Minister Narendra Modi with Arvind Kejriwal. So far no corruption charges have been filed against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while corruption allegations against Satyendra Jain-Manish Sisodia directly put Arvind Kejriwal in the dock. There is no allegation about Prime Minister Narendra Modi giving illegal benefits to his family till date, while Arvind Kejriwal is seen giving undue benefits to his people along with his personal earnings.
He said that the Aam Aadmi Party’s allegation that its leaders are being targeted for any political purpose is completely wrong. The truth is that ever since he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat, Narendra Modi, speaking as Prime Minister from the Red Fort, has repeatedly talked about taking strict action against corruption. He has continuously taken action against corrupt people. He said that a large amount of illegal transactions by the leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party leaders are being proved and this corruption cannot be defended as a simple political attack.
